Metal
Can I apply limewash paint to a metal surface?
In the past lime wash was also applied in certain circumstances to metal surfaces.
Historically we have seen evidence of that in Australia, where sometimes old sheds had a coat of white limewash paint applied to reflect the sun and reduce the heat transfer of the metal. It was a rather crude, but effective way to deal with the hot climate. The metal it was applied to was not as shiny and certainly not coated with a thin film of oil, as many new metal surfaces are nowadays.
We also had Bauwerk Limewash applied to metal gutters and downpipes and it has lasted surprisingly long. It was originally done for a film shoot, where the newly installed gutter was to new and shiny for a historic shoot in an old house.
Other application of limewash paint on metal surfaces has been on the metal faces of pizza ovens.
Also any metal surfaces that get quite hot, such as radiators, can be painted with limewash paint.
Bauwerk Colour limewash paint is non-flammable and will not release any fumes - even with an open flame.
The key to all the applications of limewash on metal is a surface that the surface is non-glossy and free from grease or other adhesion limiting substances.
As we do not make limewash paint for the specific application on metal we only share here examples of some uses. In any case, please be aware that limewash paint on metal might not work as other solvent based paints and their application and practically must be tested for the specific application intended.
