Our Colour Cards are painted on a special paper for easy handling. Please keep in mind that limewash paint always seeks to bond to an absorbent surface. Differences in absorbency influence the intensity of the final colour and the specific and changing light conditions also create a very dynamic colour appearance.

That makes selecting our colours so exciting, but also not a process where you can tick a box and get the exact colour you saw on the colour card or a picture.

Terracotta and Orange Tones — expressive, warm and architectural

Terracotta and clay-toned orange limewash colours with a sun-baked character. The palette moves from the pale dusty peach-brown of Desert Fig and apricot shades such as Raffia, through clear oranges like Calendula, Turmeric and Carrot, to deeper tones including Casa, Grevillea and Paprika.

Terracotta and orange-based colours bring a stronger sense of warmth and material presence. They are well suited to rooms where the wall colour should feel intentional, grounded and connected to natural finishes. Turmeric is a clear reference in this area, described as a bright orange limewash colour, with related tones including Saffron, Carrot, Gerbera and Calendula.

Use these shades where the room can support a more expressive colour: dining areas, kitchens, garden rooms, retail spaces, restaurants, feature walls or exterior masonry. They pair particularly well with timber, brick, terracotta tiles, clay floors, woven textures, aged brass and warm stone.

Blush and Peach Pinks — soft warmth without heaviness

Soft pink limewash tones that sit between delicate blossom colours and warmer hues. Starting with pale shades such as Alabaster, Almond Blossom and Magnolia, the palette moves through warm blush tones like Sweetpea, Malibu and Rosehip, before deepening into richer pinks such as Peony, Pasadena and Dog Rose.

Blush and peach pinks are often the most approachable entry point into the Sunset palette. They bring warmth to a room without the visual weight of terracotta, orange or red. Colours such as Marrakesh sit in this softened peach-pink area and are useful where the aim is warmth, light and a gentle human quality. Marrakesh can appear pinker on the wall than on the Colour Card, so it is especially important to view it in the intended light.

These tones work well in bedrooms, living rooms, bathrooms, dressing areas and hospitality spaces where a warmer wall colour is desired, but the result still needs to feel calm and easy to furnish. Pair them with linen, pale timber, warm whites, natural stone, brushed metal and simple neutral textiles.

Clay and Earth Reds — warm, mineral and material-led

Rich red limewash tones that lean toward historic pigment colours rather than bright primary red. The range runs from clear reds such as Japonica and Love Apples, through warmer shades like Grenadine and Henna, to deeper wine and brown-red tones including Bloodwood, Ground and Carmin.

Clay colours sit between terracotta, red and brown. They are often more grounded than clear reds and more restrained than bright orange tones. This makes them useful for interiors where the colour should feel natural, handmade and connected to the surrounding materials rather than decorative.

Clay-based sunset shades are particularly suitable for plastered walls, masonry, fireplaces, garden walls, kitchens, dining rooms and rooms with handmade tiles or natural flooring. They work well with dark timber, stone, lime plaster, aged metal, raw textiles and off-white trim. This is the area of the Sunset palette to consider when the project needs warmth with an earthy, architectural character.

Sun-washed and Clear Reds — stronger colour, used with intention

Sun-washed reds are the most assertive part of the Sunset palette. They bring warmth, confidence and a stronger relationship to historic pigments, masonry and exterior colour traditions. Japonica is a clear red limewash colour and is also described as suitable as a strong exterior colour.

These reds are best used where a stronger architectural statement is intended: exterior walls, courtyards, dining rooms, hospitality interiors, retail spaces, stairwells or selected feature areas. They can be highly effective with stone, dark timber, aged brass, terracotta, blackened metal and simple neutral furnishings that allow the wall colour to carry the atmosphere.

Ochre and Golden Yellows — sun-warmed but still grounded

Golden yellow limewash tones inspired by grains, straw and sunlit landscapes. The palette moves from pale buttery shades such as Butter and Maize, through warmer golden hues like Daffodil, Mimosa and Corn, to deeper ochre tones including Topaz and Sandalwood.

Ochre and golden yellow tones give the Sunset palette its warmer, more luminous range. They are useful when a project needs light, warmth and natural pigment character, but not the sweetness of pink or the strength of orange. Quince is a good reference point for this direction: a moody yellow inspired by autumn fruit, suitable for both interior and exterior applications.

Golden ochres work well in spaces that need to feel brighter, warmer or more connected to sunlight. They are especially effective with oak, stone, sisal, linen, warm whites, clay ceramics and garden views. In shaded rooms, they can help bring warmth; in very sunny rooms, they should be tested carefully, as the colour may become more radiant.

Bauwerk sunset tones are built from specially selected pigment powders, not industrial tints, which gives them warmth, depth, and a softer mineral character. This allows pinks, terracottas, ochres, and reds to feel radiant and full-bodied without becoming hard or overly artificial. The colours hold richness, but still retain the tonal movement and subtlety that make them comfortable to live with.

Because Bauwerk uses pigment powders only, sunset shades develop with more variation and natural complexity than many standard paint colours.
