If you are new to Bauwerk Colour and are considering a range of colours it is best to start with a selection of our Colour Cards. You can then also narrow down your choice by painting a sample area with a sample pot.

PAINT SELECTION

My surface is in unmarked condition and has been prepped with BAUWERK Prep Coat

My surface is repaired or has a mixed of materials and has been primed with a water based dry wall primer, then prepped with BAUWERK Prep Coat.

If the wall is new or in unmarked (undamaged) condition all you need is to apply one coat of BAUWERK Prep Coat.
Repaired, patched up surfaces or mixed surfaces need application of 2 coats of a waterbased sealer/undercoat and one coat of BAUWERK Prep Coat.

Consumption of limewash paint is calculated for 2 coats of lime wash paint over BAUWERK Prep Coat. 

Painting a previously painted wall

I am painting over a previously painted wall

I am painting Gypsum Board or Gypsum Plaster surfaces primed with a water based dry wall primer, then prepped with BAUWERK Prep Coat.

New or repaired plasterboard / panel surfaces need to be prepared with the application of 2 coats of a waterbased sealer/undercoat and one coat of BAUWERK Prep Coat.

Consumption of limewash paint is calculated for 2 coats of lime wash paint over BAUWERK Prep Coat.

New or repaired plasterboard / panel surface

I’m painting on a new or repaired plasterboard / panel surface

I am painting over unpainted cement or lime render.

I am painting new concrete or adobe blocks.

I am painting rammed earth or a similar material.

To test if your surface is absorbent simply brush on some water and observe how it is taken up by the surface. If it is beading off or runs down it is likely to be non-absorbent, if it is sucked up you have an absorbent surface.

Consumption of limewash paint is calculated for 2 coats of lime wash paint over new unpainted surface listed above. 

Painting A Breathable / Absorbent Surface

I’m painting on a breathable / absorbent surface

For maintenance and touch ups over existing Bauwerk paint.

If you apply the same or a darker colour usually one coat is enough. 
If a lighter colour is applied over a darker tone you may need to allow for additional application of lime paint.

Consumption of limewash paint is calculated for one maintenance coat of lime wash paint over existing Bauwerk Limewash Paint

Re-Painting Existing Bauwerk Paint

I’m painting over existing Bauwerk paint

There are many possible surfaces that Limewash paint can be applied to.

Ideally the paint is applied onto a moderately absorbent and uniform surface.

Repaired surfaces or raw plasterboard surfaces need a water based undercoat/sealer to eliminate absorbency differences to avoid ''ghosting'' of repaired areas or panelling joints. That is followed by one coat of BAUWERK Prep Coat to complete the preparation before Limewashing your surface.

We assembled all our limewash paint colours in this 23 page Master Set Colour Book, showing 16 colours on each page.

Our Master Set Colour Book allows you to compare similar shades of colour together and provides a guide as to the general colour directions possible.
Many of the colours come with helpful notes for easier selection.

The book is bound and more pages can be added as they become available. Each colour is hand painted with the actual lime paint colour, cut and then assembled by hand.

The book is 34cm wide and 22cm high, it contains 23 pages with 16 colour chips of 5 cm x 2.5 cm in size.

Narrowing Down Your Choice

Limewash paint reacts very dynamically to changing light conditions. 
It is best practice to make the selection with Colour Cards pinned against the wall at the project location. The same colour might appear quite different if you only view it flat on your desk and under artificial light.
