This limewash brush is a very versatile brush, suitable for most surfaces. Use is on all smooth surfaces, but equally for surfaces made from brick, natural stone or render.

Especially on coarse surfaces it is best to grip the brush at the body, not so much on the handle. Move the brush at right angle across the surface, not sideway so that all bristle ends can do their work.

Do not add too much pressure, let the bristles do their work.

Deep recesses are best painted with a small circular movements.

Do not leave too much paint behind - stretch out the paint further. It is better to apply the paint thin than too thick.

If the surface is very absorbent, use clean water to dampen it until it is easy to paint.

Stir well and regularly!

Fill a small bucket of water and submerge the brush, shake it under the water a few times until most of the colour is out.

The rinse under the tap, always towards the bristle tips, never against it.

Shake out the brush, shape the bristles back towards the centre of the brush and allow to dry upright on a rag.

New natural fibre brushes do loose a few hairs, that is normal. Before the first use can ''break them in'' by brushing them against a course surface with a bit of pressure and then gently tease out any strangs that are loose.

But even if you start painting right away you don't have to worry, keep painting and let the surface dry. Any strangs will fall off easily with a gently touch after that. After the first use of your brush almost all loose hair will have come out.

Washing out our paint is safe, even for your septic system or your garden. It will not adversely affect the environment, as we only use in our paints only ingredients that are non-toxic and safe for humans and the environment.

It is als was best to maintain a wet edge when painting limewash paint to avoid overlapping. If it is very hot and dry or the wall area too large to handle on your own it is best to order another brush so that someone else can paint together with you.

Pro Tip:
if the surface is very absorbent you can dampen the surface with clean water to reduce absorbency. Simply brush the water on until the wall does not suck in the paint too fast and you have more time to stretch ou the paint.

Yes you can, as long as it is a limewash brush it should be fine. Longer bristles do not work as well on a rough surface, but it is still possible to paint. With a longer bristle it is very important to hold the brush at right angle to the surface and not to apply too much pressure.

Let the bristles do the work!

For a distressed brick work with a whitish finish you can use our limewash paint colour TRANSPARENT WHITE.
This is our non-pigmented limewash when you want to see more of the background colour coming through. You can apply it in multiple layer, each layer crating a more opaque finish. It offer more control, but is also a little bit more time consuming if you want a near opaque white finish, as you may have to apply more than 3 coats to achieve that.

Additional information to get the distressed look:

Have a cotton cloth ready to rub off any excess paint you wish to remove again

• clean the surface you are about to paint

• brush on some clean water to make the bricks less absorbent

• dip the brush into the paint (only about 1 cm is enough) and shake all excess paint off

• hold the brush at right angle to the wall, but vary the direction constantly and let the bristle do the work. There is no need to apply too much pressure

• work light and fast - spreading the paint a s far as you can (if the brick are to dry make them damp again)

• make sure you do not deposit too much paint into any deeper holes or recesses, if you do, use the cloth to rub some paint off again immediately

Yes, it is best to have the same preparation steps done for a sample surface as for the final surface.
