Green Energy
From the inception of Bauwerk Colour we have been taking into consideration where we can use renewable energy
What Type of Electrical Energy is used at Bauwerk Colour?
Even though electrical energy from renewable sources was for many years only available when you were prepared to pay a premium price over energy coming from coal or other energy sources, we were committed to produce our products and run our offices, warehouses and production facilities 100% with energy coming from wind, solar and bioenergy.
As yet we are not producing our own electrical energy, but this is firmly on the horizon.
What energy is used in the production of Bauwerk Lime?
We are still true to the traditional way of lime production and burn our lime with timber. Timber is a renewable resource and any CO2 emitted is also regrown and bound in equal amounts in the regrowth of trees.
The timber that is used for the lime burns are off-cuts and waste timber from pruning of trees or when trees need to felled at the end of their lives.
Additionally, we plant new trees on our property that is not only a protected bird habitat but also under a heritage protection program.
One very special tree on our property belongs to the 100 most important trees of Germany: It is the oldest and largest London Plane Tree of Germany, perhaps even of mainland Europe. It was planted in 1668 and measures 9.45 meters in circumference.
For the care and upkeep of this massive tree we invest much time and effort every year. It is home to lots of birds during the breeding season, rare species of beetles, owls and bats. Please feel free in autumn to help us clear the tons of leaves this tree produces every year!
What have you done to reduce the CO2 emissions from transporting your lime wash paint products?
We have consciously opted for a business model where we do not operate a fleet of vehicles for deliveries or pick-ups. Instead, we use courier services that optimise load space and avoid empty return trips to their depots. By delivering all of our orders directly to the customer, many vehicle trips to stores or depots are no longer needed.
We're proud to partner with DHL GoGreen for shipping, which neutralizes the CO₂ output from DHL Express for all air freight. All our air shipments utilize CO₂-neutral aviation fuel. In many urban areas, DHL utilises electric vehicles for deliveries, reducing noise, air pollution, and CO₂ emissions. Learn more.
